PROS and CONS of Having a BEAGLE
Beagles have a cute and sweet face but it shouldn't be the only reason for you to decide to add them to your family. Well, they are very stubborn and single-minded scent-hound. So before getting a Beagle, check out the points below.
First let's talk about the negative things to ponder before getting a beagle.
First let's talk about the negative things to ponder before getting a beagle.
- Beagles follow their noses.. all the time. And they always get into trouble because of that.
- Beagles can't go on walks or hikes off-leash. They ALWAYS need to be attached to their human when they are outside of their fenced yard. Otherwise, you will be running around chasing them.
- Beagles need to live in a house with a securely fenced yard. Since they follow their noses all the time, well they may not obey you when you stop them from running away once they catch an interesting scent.
- Beagles are difficult to train. Well, this is often said but I would say this is not entirely true. Yes, they could be stubborn but please do note each dog has their own characteristics and personal preferences. The way they act could also be affected and influenced by the people around them. As long as they are trained properly and as early as possible, they could do well at home.
- Beagles can be very noisy sometimes. They bark and howl with a very distinctive voice. They do this when they are excited, afraid, sad, and very happy.
- Beagles whill scavenge for food. Well, as stated earlier, they always follow their noses so don't leave your food on a table and make sure the garbage is out of their reach.
- Beagles are not guard dogs. Yes, they are not good outside dogs. They are very social and people-oriented. They wanted to be inside the house and be part of your family.
So much with the negative things about Beagles, let's talk about the good side of having them. Well, since I can cope up with the negative things listed above, points listed below are the very reason why I decided to have Mimi in our family.
So basically, if you can live with the points listed above and you have the patience and lots of love and time to dedicate to a dog, then a Beagle will be perfect for you.

- Beagles do not need a lot of grooming. They don't shed a lot so you won't have to spend more in this area.
- Beagles are not a yappy breed. Yes, the can be noisy but they only bark if they have something to bark at. With my beagle, it's true that she don't bark a lot. She only howls if I put her on leash to stop her from running around if I am cleaning the house.
- Beagles are very people-oriented. They are the type of dogs who wants to be with you and be part of a family. They can be very affectionate and loving towards everyone in the house.
